Smart cold chain compliance and monitoring?
Effective, uninterrupted refrigeration and temperature control are essential in preserving food, samples and medicine at all levels of the supply chain—from raw materials through to manufacturing, storage, distribution and retail.
Maintain cold chain integrity throughout each step of the delivery process with Smarter Technologies’ cold chain logistics solutions for warehouses, transit and manufacturing. We create wireless tags with temperature sensors that can be attached to lorries, ISO shipping containers, pallets, refrigerators and other warehouse storage units, giving you end-to-end visibility along the entire supply chain.
Cold chain condition monitoring
Along with location data, our cold chain management solution can monitor a wide range of conditions, depending on what is most important to you and your business. Smart tags and IoT enabled sensors relay pre-defined data according to your needs. This data can include time, temperature, tamper, speed, latitude, longitude, battery information, shock reports and more. By monitoring these environmental factors, you can assess the potential impact on perishable goods in transit to reduce waste, maintain product quality and integrity and enhance the customer experience.

How our smart cold chain technology works
Smarter Technologies’ cold chain logistics solutions utilise temperature sensors, location tags and lid sensors to ensure that your products are handled with the specialist care and the attention that they require.
These devices transmit real-time data on the location, temperature, condition and safety of your assets via Orion, The Real-Time Data Network™. The data is displayed and stored on SmarterView, your customised, cloud-based dashboard that can be accessed 24/7 from any connected device.
Temperature sensors
Temperature sensors can detect the ambient temperature in real time. If the ambient temperature exceeds a specified threshold, the exception is promptly reported to the remote monitoring centre.
Location tags
The remote monitoring centre can query the location of any materials in real time, and on-site position sensors can periodically report their location.
Lid status
If a transport case is unlocked, the sensor can detect that in real time and report the unlocked status.
Full cold chain monitoring and control from SmarterView
Smarter Technologies' Orion tags and network are accompanied by SmarterView, a cloud-based cold chain visibility platform that can be accessed via any smart device, putting a full overview of your building into the palm of your hand. Get proactive with real-time condition monitoring and have your reports automatically generated and uploaded to your personal dashboard.

Smart cold chain Use Cases
A high proportion of drugs are sensitive to the rise and fall in temperatures throughout the global supply chain. They need to be maintained at a consistent and specific temperature to prevent degradation and expensive, reputation-damaging product recalls.
Our sensors constantly monitor the temperature of the drugs in your care and send you an instant alert to your mobile device if the temperature changes in any way. They can also be fitted with auto-start and shutdown mechanisms to allow for automated, remote temperature control and management, preventing pharmaceutical product degradation. All data is recorded on your pharmaceutical cold chain management dashboard.
Compliance regulations require grocers and food services to maintain safe temperatures of refrigerated foods. But manually checking and recording temperatures using a probe thermometer is a labour-intensive task. It’s far more efficient to use Smarter Technologies’ temperature sensors to remotely and automatically detect and manage refrigerated food temperatures within one degree Celsius. Any variations in temperature will trigger real-time alerts to any connected device, allowing you to act quickly and compliantly.
The manufacturing processes for certain drug components require particular temperatures to maintain their integrity. In this case, we can attach our tags and sensors to the manufacturing equipment to ensure that they remain at an acceptable temperature.

FAQ
Cold chains require transporting products while maintaining temperature. Temperature-controlled logistics are vital in the event of unexpected delays, problems in clearing customs, and equipment malfunctions – all of which can cause vulnerability in the cold chain. That’s why it’s important to be able to monitor and control the various elements of the cold chain in real time.
Fortunately, cold chain logistics monitoring has been made easier due to evolving technology and tracking capabilities. With real-time location tracking and condition monitoring devices, smart cold chain logistics solutions ensure that products remain within predetermined and regulated temperature ranges.
The key elements of a cold chain include:
- Cooling systems - Bringing the commodity (food, vaccines, etc.) to the correct temperature.
- Cold storage - Providing the facilities for the storage of goods over time.
- Cold transport - Having conveyances to move the goods at a stable temperature.
- Cold processing and distribution - Providing the facilities for the processing of goods under sanitary conditions.
